Huntington Learning Center - Meet Our New Franchisees

MEET OUR NEW FRANCHISEES JANET and JEFF HASLAUER
IN AUSTIN / FOUR POINTS, TX

Janet and Jeff Haslauer are a perfect, complementary franchisee pair! While Janet has more of an education background and Jeff is more of a numbers guy, both are motivated to give back to the community with their first (but definitely not their last) Huntington Learning Center.

Q. What was your background prior to becoming a Huntington franchise owner?
A. Janet: I have a background in sales and elementary education. I was a teacher in grades 1-3.
A. Jeff: My background is in accounting and finance in the oil and gas and retail/franchise industries. I've spent the last 3 years working on financial planning and operations for a retail salon that also franchised out locations.

Q. What were the top three reasons you chose to invest in Huntington?
A. Janet: I love the principal of focusing on the child while investing in the community. The atmosphere at Discovery Day was wonderful.
A. Jeff:
1. Helping students.
2. Feeling like you are making a difference in the community.
3. Being proud of what you do for a living.
Q. Was there anything about the education/tutoring industry that you found particularly compelling versus other big franchise industries?
A. Janet: I feel that this service is so much more humbling and rewarding than all the other franchises I approached.
A. Jeff: My wife is a former educator and really enjoyed the aspect that a more intimate interaction with the students will make a significant difference. We felt it could make a difference and we would be really proud to say what we do for a living.

Q. What are your impressions of the level of training and support Huntington offers to franchisees?
A. Janet: I had over 15 validation calls and every franchisee brought a great amount of attention to the fact that training will set you up to succeed.
A. Jeff: In talking with other franchises, we learned about the vast resources available to them and how forthcoming the information was.

Q. What advice would you give to those who are beginning their franchise search?
A. Janet: Prepare to do your homework and self-inform through company information and especially validation calls.
A. Jeff: Fully read the FDD as it gives a lot of good knowledge on the system.

Q. What are your business goals during your first couple of years of franchising?
A. Janet: Follow the system and don't be afraid to contact the help desk or your Franchise Business Consultant.
A. Jeff: Our goal is to turn around the transfer store and build a new successful store.
